Our
School History and Ethos
The
school is situated in the village of Pontycymer in
the Garw Valley which lies north of Bridgend
County Borough between the Ogmore and Llynfi
valleys.
The
nursery itself has been established for over 50
years and moved into its present building in
October 1994. It stands in an attractive location on the main road through
the valley. There
are 30 full time places.
At
our Nursery we have adopted many of the High Scope
principles.
Early
Years experiences such as High Scope help a child
engage in the right kind of things:
An interest in learning.
A willingness to try new things.
Trust in adults and a strong sense of
independence.
The fundamental
premise of the High Scope curriculum is
that children are active learners who
learn best from activities they plan and
carry out for themselves.
Children use their initiative.
They plan and develop their own
strengths and interests.
High Scope plan-do-review process
gives children the opportunity to:
|
Create and express their intentions
|
(plan) |
|
Generate their own learning experiences |
(do) |
|
Reflect
on these experiences |
